Dream Fragments was part of the Me Siento Extraña take-over by Verushka, during Sónar’s by Night lineup in Barcelona, in June 2024. The project triggered what has evolved into an ongoing exploration around the use of Gaussian Splatting in live performance.
Dream Fragments plays with the boundary between hyperrealism and abstraction, manipulating Gaussian splats to reveal or camouflage the true identity of the rendered scenes.
The performance centers around a custom-built control system for seamless delivery and switching between visuals. This setup accommodates multiple layers of effects as well as the splats themselves, allowing for both automated and manual control of audio-reactive elements that respond to Verushka’s music in real-time.
Gaussian Splatting is a 3D reconstruction method that represents scenes using a collection of points (splats) with attributes like position, size, and color. Each splat is rendered as a small blob that can be tilted in any direction, allowing for efficient rendering of complex 3D scenes with high visual quality and smooth transitions between different levels of detail.
