Glitch Armour | WinPrivacy | 2025

Glitch Armour is a free, open toolkit compiling privacy-friendly tools and alternatives across 12 categories. Built on the idea that privacy is collective safety, the project draws from Glitch Feminism’s framing of the “glitch” as a site of liberation, using unpredictability and pattern-scrambling as a form of resistance against AI profiling and data exploitation. The toolkit is designed to be adopted gradually, offering options with clear pros and cons so users can make informed choices based on their own needs and use cases.

The toolkit covers 12 categories spanning everyday digital infrastructure: messenger, browser, browser add-ons, search engine, VPN, email, password manager, encrypted storage, file transfer, knowledge system, collaborative editor, and video call. Each category offers curated alternatives evaluated for their privacy practices, giving users a clear path to reclaiming agency over their data without overhauling everything at once.

The project has since expanded beyond the web, taking shape across several installation iterations. Below are some images from the most recent installation featuring the toolkit. Its newest form will be presented as an interactive installation at Sonar+D 2026 in Barcelona. Currently under development.
